Map and elevations of the last 112 km of the Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago

day 1 - Making our Way to Villafranca and visit of Ponferrada

We will pick you up at your arrival airport and drive you to Villafranca del Bierzo where you will spend the night and forget about today's transit at the town's 4* Parador. Villafranca del Bierzo is a lively medieval town with great importance for the pilgrimage. Indeed, Pilgrims who could not make it to Santiago de Compostela because they were ill were given the jubilee blessing once they passed the Puerta del Perdón gate (as detailed in the book “the Pilgrimage” by Paulo Coelho).

On the way to the hotel, if the time of arrival of your flight allows, we will make a 2h stop in Ponferrada to visit one of the last remaining Templar Castle or to visit the impressive Médulas de Carucedo, Roman gold mines declared World Heritage Site.

day 2 - 5 km - Visits, miracles & breathtaking views

You are in for a treat today, so wake up early. After breakfast at the Parador, we will drive you up the mountain to the border of Castilla-y-León and you will walk the last 5 km through beautiful mountain paths into the region of Galicia and into the timeless Celtic village of O Cebreiro.

With stunning panoramic views of the valleys below from 1300 meters up, the ancient pallozas (circular pre-Roman stone dwellings built by the Celts of the region) and the rebuilt Romanesque church of St. Mary’s, site of a 14th century Eucharistic miracle, few places along the Camino are as enchanting as O Cebreiro!

After lunch, we will let you discover the Benedictine Monastery of Samos, one or the wealthiest and most powerful of all the monasteries of the peninsula in Medieval Times (option to visit the Ribeira Sacras and go wine-tasting instead). We will spend the night at the Parador de Monforte de Lemos a XVIIth century Benedictine Monastery transformed into a luxury hotel with incredible views, gardens and a swimming pool.

day 3 - 22 km - Walk from Sarria to Portomarin

After a short drive to Sarria (there is an option to start around the 100 km marker instead of Sarria to reduce the walking time) you will start your pilgrimage by walking to Portomarin. Walk along easy paved trails through beautiful countryside, meadows and oak woods, charming villages with slate roofs and a huge medieval bridge.

Take a picture of yourself in front of the 100 km marker and witness those who have walked hundreds of kilometers get emotional. Expect some steep uphill and downhill at some point today, but it will be made up by the beauty of the route and remember if you are tired our van is never far away. At arrival in Portomarin, we will transfer you to a beautiful Galician Mansion near the Camino where you will discover Galician hospitality.

day 4 - 10 km - Walk from Lavacolla to Santiago!

Wake up early as today, we walk into Santiago de Compostela. We will bring you ten kilometers away from your goal to the town of Lavacolla, where pilgrims used to bath before reaching the Cathedral. The first hour walk is through peaceful oak and eucalyptus forests.

Half-way you will pass Monte do Gozo (Mount of joy) which was transformed into an area for pilgrims for the Jacobean Holy Year of 1993 and you will get your first glimpse of the City of Santiago de Compostela. The last hour walk will be entering the City of the Apostle mostly going downhill before getting to the Medieval Old Town and the Plaza del Obradoiro. We will quickly check-in into the Parador de los Reyes Catolicos directly on the Plaza del Obradoiro before heading to the pilgrim mass at twelve. The afternoon will be free to enjoy the facilities of your hotel, relax and marvel at our beloved City.

day 5 - Half day in Santiago de Compostela

On the last day of your tour, we will gather for a guided visit of the City and the Cathedral where you will be told about the fascinating stories of each monument you see. We will then set out for your departure airport and say our farewells until next time.
