About the Al Andalus train

The Al Andalus train started as a tourist product three decades ago, recovering and restoring early- dated coaches to deploy once again its elegance and sophistication in the Spanish railways. Today, its lounge cars are the perfect scenario in which breakfast is served à la carte and dinners and three-course meals are designed by our well-known chefs. Enjoy areas to chat with other travelers, have an espresso, a sherry or a delicious cocktail, or just let your imagination run free and relax while the landscape passes by the vast windows.

It is not surprising that its cabins once clattered along the tracks that cross France from Calais to the French Riviera with the members of the British monarchy as illustrious passengers.

Sleep in luxury suites on-board

In Al Andalus, you will have the choice between Superior and Standard Suites. The Superior Suite are spacious and elegant cabins with a bedroom and private bathroom, perfectly suited for rest and privacy. There is a large double bed (200x150) which converts into a comfortable sofa during the day, plus the possibility of adding an extra bed in some cabins. The en-suite bathroom includes an hydro-massage shower, hairdryer and a varied set of quality toiletries, with an exclusive fragrance. Safe, mini-bar, wardrobe, luggage rack and individual climate control are some of the comforts of the 21s century in this suite that combines the original features of this historic train.

The Standard Suite have an en-suite bathroom that retains the size and appeal of the original cabins. Guests enjoy the convenient set-up of twin beds that turn into comfortable sofas during the day, along with mini-bar, safe, wardrobe, luggage rack and individual climate control. Its functional en-suite bathroom maximizes spaces along with shower, hairdryer and a varied set of quality toiletries, with an exclusive fragrance.

A magical way of traveling

You will start each day by enjoying a delicious à la carte or buffet breakfast, before the guided tours, which include tickets to museums and shows always accompanied by our multilingual guide. Our private coach will take us comfortably to each place. In the afternoon, there will be time to explore and to relax. After dinner, in the company of other passengers, you will enjoy an evening of leisure in our inspiring lounges. Many friendships have started around a drink in the Al Andalus coaches. Every night there is a party on board with various live performances throughout the trip, which given the length of the train will not affect those who prefer to retire early. You can also choose to go for a stroll in the town we are spending the night in. The train remains parked at night to ensure passengers a good night’s rest and departs the next morning.

In general, comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended for the daytime when we are out on excursions. At night you can opt for more formal attire, although no particular dress code is required at any time.

delicious and traditional dishes on-board

Traveling on the Al Andalus is touring the rich Spanish cuisine with delicious dishes with deep roots in the culinary traditions of the people who have shaped its history. World famous products such as olive oil, sherry, Jabugo Iberian ham, fish and Galician seafood rub shoulders with refreshing dishes such as gazpacho and typically Andalusian recipes, like oxtail, or Castilian, like roasts. The gastronomy of each area, accompanied by the wines from the best guarantee of origin gives its personal touch to the different itineraries with a perfect balance between the traditional cuisine of each region, the creativity of the professionals and the constant innovation that has made Spanish cuisine famous worldwide.

Map of the Al-Andalus Luxury Train Journey

Rendez-vous at Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville at 10.30am for a city tour of the flamboyant, charismatic, ever-evolving Andalusian metropolis founded, according to myth, 3000 years ago by the Greek god Hercules. Situated on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a rich Moorish heritage, and used to be a prosperous port that carried out trade with the Americas. After having lunch at the hotel, we will finally board the Tren Al Andalus and enjoy a welcome cocktail on-board, during the presentation of the crew and services on-board.

We will have a gourmet dinner on board as we head to Jerez de la Fontera 1h30 away, where we will spend the next couple nights. Jerez is well known for its wines, its horses and its flamenco, preserves a historic center that has been declared a historic artistic site. It is one of the noblest towns in the region and brings together the splendor of aristocratic palaces with the popular flavor of typically Andalusian houses.

As we will for the next 7 mornings, we begin the day with a delicious buffet and a la carte breakfast. In the morning, we will visit a Sherry wine cellar in Jerez and enjoy the famous Jerez equestrian ballet.

Lunch will be served in Sanlúcar de Barrameda overlooking the salt marshes of Doñana National Park from where our luxury coach will take us back to Jerez de la Frontera, where we will spend the night again.

Our bus will take us to Cadiz, 40 min away, popularly known as “Small silver cup”. Founded 3,000 years ago by the Phoenicians, Cádiz is the oldest city in Western Europe. The different peoples who settled here left an important cultural imprint, whose influence still remains in the character of the city's people. This peninsula, right on the Andalusian Atlantic coast, has been able to preserve an important historical legacy - the result of its commercial importance - together with excellent beaches and an exquisite regional cuisine.

After a Guided Tour, we will have free time to venture on our own into Cádiz before lunch on our Tren Al Andalus heading to the stunning city of Ronda, 2h away, where we will have dinner and stay the night. The town of Ronda sits on the Tajo del Ronda, a narrow gorge more than 150 meters deep. Celts, Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs all inhabited these lands, which were reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs which makes it one of the most interesting and beautiful towns on the route of the Whitewashed Villages of Malaga.

After a tour of Ronda, you will have some free time before lunch on our way to Granada, a city nestled on the foothills of Sierra Nevada. Granada has an unmistakable Moorish essence, due to the fact that it was the last city to be reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492.

The gastronomy, craft-work and urban planning are influenced by its glorious past. Fountains, viewpoints and "Cármenes", houses surrounded by typical gardens of this city, create unforgettable corners in the city. It is no surprise that one of its old neighborhoods, the Albaicín, has been awarded the World Heritage designation, together with the Alhambra and Generalife. We will have dinner and spend the next couple nights on-board in Granada.

We will spend the morning touring the Alhambra, the most visited monument in Spain, a rich palace complex that housed the Nasrid rulers from the Kingdom of Granada, the largest political and aristocratic center of the Moslem West. After lunch we will have free time to visit this city and its impressive Al-Andalus heritage.

As the night falls, the whole town is wrapped in a magic spell that you will enjoy over dinner. Night in Granada again.

Morning journey on the Al Andalus to station of Linares-Baeza, from where our coach will take us to visit the Renaissance towns of Úbeda and Baeza, both listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO and house a splendid legacy of monuments made up of churches, palaces and aristocratic houses.

After lunch, we will return to the train to begin our journey to Córdoba. Cordoba was an important Roman city and a major Islamic center in the Middle Ages and is a living legacy of the different cultures that settled here throughout its history. The City of Cordoba is best known for La Mezquita, an immense mosque dating from 784 A.D., featuring a columned prayer hall and older Byzantine mosaics. After it became a Catholic church in 1236, a Renaissance-style nave was added in the 17th century. We will enjoy dinner and spend the night in Córdoba.

After enjoying our last breakfast on-board, we will visit the former capital of the emirate and the medieval caliphate of Al Andalus, once the largest, most educated and opulent city in Western Europe.

Back at the train to enjoy our last lunch while Tren Al Andalus takes us to our final destination, Seville, where the journey ends.
