Why travel with Danielle on the Camino de Santiago from Sarria?
If you want hike the Camino de Santiago but don’t want to do it alone, I’d love to have you join me! We’ll begin our journey in the vibrant city of Madrid, starting our adventure off with a Flamenco show, a visit to the San Miguel night market, and a 100 year old Chocolateria for dessert.
Along the Camino, we’ll journey back in time through beautiful countryside and timeless villages of northern Spain on an ancient route which pilgrims have walked for more than a thousand years. We’ll walk 4-6 hours each day, stay in boutique hotels and 17th century restored guest houses in the countryside booked by Ultreya Tours. Our luggage will be transported for us each day, leaving us with plenty of time to connect with ourselves, our intentions, and new friends we meet along the way. With delicious meals and a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Ending our journey in the historic city of Santiago de Compostela, we’ll take one more day to visit Finisterre, “the End of the Earth” and the stunning Atlantic coast of Galicia. A place where pilgrims in ancient times would go to pray and burn their clothes to symbolically start a new and purer life.
Why I LOVE the Camino de Santiago
I first heard of the Camino de Santiago a few years ago and after watching the movie, The Way, I decided that I wanted to experience it for myself.
Hiking the Camino in 2018 turned out to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. It was so much more than I could have ever imagined and I can’t wait to do it again. I fell in love – with the scenery, the daily pace, Galician gastronomy and hospitality, the contemplative moments of solitude, the conversations and joyful moments that I shared with my group, and all the wonderful people we met along the way.
About Danielle Weiss, the Owner of Original Routes
Over the past several years I have gained clarity about the kind of travel that inspires me and the experiences that I want to share with the world. As I move forward on this exciting journey to be fearless in the pursuit of what sets my soul on fire, I’m delving deeper into creating trips that combine my passion for leading pilgrimages and experiencing different cultures around the world.
For many years, I had the privilege of working with Indigenous communities, primarily in the Andes and the Amazon of South America. In the process, I’ve been deeply inspired by the depth of their generosity, wisdom and understanding of the natural world. For this reason, many of the trips I design are based around the relationships I’ve created with these communities and going forward, my dream is develop them with more Indigenous cultures around the world.
I’ve also come to appreciate pilgrimages as a way of experiencing a country and a culture more fully. I began with a pilgrimage in Peru and am now expanding to other pilgrimages around the world. Starting with the Camino in Spain and soon I’ll be adding the Camino through Portugal and the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage in Japan.
Happy Pilgrims
“Traveling with Danielle on the Camino in Spain was the most amazing trip of my ENTIRE life and I have travelled the world! This would be a very difficult trip to top and I’m looking forward to traveling with her and Original Routes, again and again.”
